Serving Haiti |
|
Everywhere you look Haiti is in the news. There are articles, news stories, emails, and fundraisers taking place to reach out and serve those impacted by the January 12 disaster in Haiti. As difficult as it is to see all of the pain, loss of life, and long-term suffering which has occurred as result, it has been encouraging to see the many ways that many are reaching out to serve those who live in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, one where 86% of the population live on fewer than $2 per day.
Three of the organizations that Into the Field works with are stepping up and stepping out. If you are interested, I know that they would welcome your support:
Eyes Wide Open International (EWOI) - EWOI co-founder, David Bompart left on January 22 for Haiti. While there, he will be working as an interpreter - yes, he is fluent in Creole - for a medical team serving at an orphanage in Port-au-Prince. Before he returns for the US, he will find his way north to Ouanaminthe where he will lend a hand (and his mechanical skills) to Pastor Dave Mann (a pastor from Upper Arlington Lutheran Church who is currently fulltime deployed - along with his wife, Pam - to Haiti). According to the US Military, there is only 1 interpreter for every 122 doctors. Thank you to both Daves and Pam for leaving the comfort of homes and going to serve!
Doma International
will be contributing 50% of all fund raised through it's Team Up 4 Orphans charity running team to orphanages in Haiti. The balance of the funds raised will support the other programs and projects of Doma in Russia, Ukraine, Ethiopia, and Columbus, Ohio. It isn't too late for you to join the team!
Wild Olive Tees is in the process of designing a special tee whose proceeds will benefit the orphans of Haiti. Keep your eyes open for more details!

Meet Project Green Light!
|
In the United States 18,000 youth are exploited every year for sex, with an additional 300,000 at risk. On January 30, Doma International will kick-off Project Green Light.
What is project Green Light? It is more than a program. It's a movement. Green Light believes that if communities raise awareness towards the elimination of sex traffficking, and if the public learns to recognize, resist, and report sex trafficking, and if youth can access support, then safer communities will develop which will no longer tolerate a demand for sex trafficking, but will nurture all children towards wholeness.
If you or your church would like to get involved, please contact Julie Clark, Executive Director of Doma International.

oops... |
In the December eNews, Into the Field got a little over-zealous in the sharing of the funds currently managed by The Columbus Stewardship Foundation. The correct amount is $22 million in Giving Funds under management. We apologize for our error and misrepresentation in the overall amount (although with your generosity, you could make my oops a reality!). |

How does one "keep the faith" in tough times? How can a loving God allow for great tragedy and suffering? These are questions which keep people awake at night and lend for deep and long (and sometimes contentious) conversations. In February, I will share about an April 15 event which Into the Field has the privilege of being a part of - "The Great Debate: Does the Bible Provide an Adequate Answer to the Problem of Suffering?". While the topic was established and details put in motion long before the January 12 earthquake, it is of no surprise to me its timing and relevance to what we are seeing and experiencing now. I believe that we have a loving God who cries when we cry and hurts when we hurt. We must find the strength and courage - and faith - to remember just how much He loves us, and continue to sing His praises, like the people in Haiti in this video.
